The King beneath the mountains, The King of carven stone, The lord of silver fountains Shall come into his own! The streams shall run in gladness, The lakes shall shine and burn, All sorrow fail and sadness At the Mountain-king's return! An exiled Dwarf prince and the rightful King of the throne of Erebor, Thorin is the direct descendant of both Durin the Deathless and Durin III, one of the seven Dwarf Lords to receive a ring of power during the Second Age. He is the son of Thrain II and the grandson of King Thror, the last King of the Kingdom Under the Mountain before its wealth attracted the dragon, Smaug. Smaug lay to waste the city of Dale and proceeded to attack the mountain, killing all in its path and claiming Erebor for itself, forcing the Dwarves to flee their homeland. Now Thorin, under the guidance and council of Gandalf the Grey, is on a quest to reclaim it. |
